Complex hair animation in after effects 10min tutorial

Animating hair becomes simple with After Effects. To grasp the concept, it’s essential to possess a good understanding of After Effects and Photoshop.

First and foremost, carefully examine the files at your disposal. Determine whether you have only an image or the source file. Having the source file makes the process easier; otherwise, you’ll need to cut and preserve the image. Our videos will provide a visual demonstration, and I’ll also explain the process with diagrams below.

  1. First, we need to crop your image with the cut tool in Photoshop.

To animate effectively, it is crucial to keep the specific parts of the picture you want to animate as separate layers. After isolating the desired section, you may notice that the areas behind it are empty. In such cases, you should fill those sections appropriately. The brush tool can be used for this purpose.

By maintaining separate layers and filling the necessary areas, you ensure smooth and accurate animation. This approach allows for better control and manipulation of the animated elements.

  1. After all the above is finished, we need to export our file from Photoshop for after effects.

To accomplish this, you can save the layers as a PNG file. However, exporting as a PSD file might be a more challenging option.

Let’s move on to animating with After Effects. Firstly, you need to import the source file of the cut image into After Effects. Simply drag the source file into After Effects to initiate the import process. After dragging, adjust the settings according to the image provided below.

Please ensure that the settings align with the instructions given in the accompanying image.
